On Lenovo Thinkpads, I can power charge in specific USB ports. Does
MacBook Pros (mid 2015, early 2013, etc.) not have these?

Thank you in advance. :)

usb compliant devices (phones, tablets, etc.) can charge from any
compliant port, which includes all macbooks, imacs, thinkpads, etc.

if you mean charge the laptop via usb, that requires usb-c and very few
laptops have that (so far). the macbooks announced last week can, as
can a few others, however, some require a specific charger (namely hp
with an hp charger *only*).

No, I cannot charge this Samsung Galaxy S6 edge from the powered off
work's MacBook Pros. I had no problems with two work's Lenovo Thinkpads
(P50 and W530) with their USB ports though.

No you cannot. No non UBC-C Mac allows charging via USB. I don't know of
any computer anywhere tha allows charging via USB-A because that would
be stupid (and a violation of the spec).
